Research support + survey development and analysis

Human Impacts Institute

The Mission

We are building a global cultural movement that’s inspiring big, bold, and beautiful climate action.

The Situation

The Human Impacts Institute (HII) partners with environmental justice organizations to leverage arts and culture to drive action. In order to inform the launch of a new program aimed at supporting its partners, HII conducted research based around three key research questions:

  • What is sparking environmental justice action?

  • What are the impacts of arts and culture on fostering environmental justice actions and communication?

  • How do we measure the impact of arts and culture?

While significant insights were identified via a comprehensive literature review, in order to supplement and validate findings as part of a mixed-methods study, additional data from environmental justice groups working in the field was necessary.

Solutions Delivered

  • Partnered with HII staff to support and advise on the development of survey and interview protocols for environmental justice groups based on research goals and literature review, enabling HII to capture rich data across a wider set of organizations, adding additional color and rigor to findings.

  • Compiled and completed analysis of resulting data, outlining key findings and contributing valuable insights which informed approach to new programming.
